Liam Shephard was delighted to grab his first professional goal to rescue a point for Town against Barnet.
The full-back proved an effective attacking outlet for the Glovers at the Hive and finished a move he started by turning home Ben Whitfield’s cross with a neat effort 10 yards out.
Swansea City loanee Shephard claimed “it’s just what I do in training!” and hopes it is the first of many in his career.
“There’s nothing better than scoring in the 90th minute!” he told YTFC’s official YouTube channel.
“I can’t really remember it but I picked up the ball, saw the space in the middle of the park, hit it in there, ran around a player and just kept running. Then it was one of those where you could shoot or pass it wide and get on the end of a cross.
“It just came to me quick and I didn’t have time to think about it. When that happens you just put it in the net and thankfully that happened.
“The penny has dropped now so hopefully I’ll go and get a few more towards the end of the season.”
Shephard’s father Gary was renown for scoring touch during his playing days in Wales.
The 22-year-old’s dad often hit the back of the net for Merthyr Town and Newport County, and Shephard believes that is where he picked up his newly-found shooting boots.
“That little finish was from him!” he quipped.
“He was the one who just to ran off the striker and get the flick-ons and he was so quick, he’d get on the end of them and put them in the back of the net.”
Accrington Stanley are Town’s next opponents in Sky Bet League Two.
