Otis Khan was pleased to get back in the swing of things as Town overcame Weymouth in their first pre-season friendly of 2017/18.
The 21-year-old’s cool finish restored parity on 32 minutes after former Glover Brandon Goodship had opened the scoring, before Bevis Mugabi headed home to earn the Green and Whites victory in the second half.
Five of manager Darren Way’s six summer signings started alongside Khan at the Bob Lucas Stadium and the tricky attacker was happy to kick-start his relationship with them on the field.
“I really enjoyed it,” he told YTFC’s iFollow.
“It was really nice to be back out there especially with the new faces to get playing and clicking with them.
“They want to get the ball down and play which suits me down to the ground. They get the ball and fizz it out to me quickly so I can do what i need to do.”
Khan latched on to a mistake by Weymouth goalkeeper Mark Travers to net the Glovers’ first goal on the night.
The former Barnsley man scored eight goals in all competitions last term and is hoping for more next season.
“I want to help the team with assists and goals this year so I’m glad I got on the scoresheet,” he said.
“He tried be clever thinking I’m only a short boy and dink it over me but I was quick enough to get on the edge of the box, get on the ball and slide it past him nicely.”
Khan added: “We’re looking to get some momentum going into the season.
“We want to win games but it’s about clicking and putting the things we do in training out on the field so when the first game of the season comes we’re all ready to go.”
