Town ran out 2-1 winners against Weymouth in their first pre-season friendly at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Goals from Otis Khan and Bevis Mugabi cancelled out Brandon Goodship's opener to ensure the Glovers began 2017/18 with victory.

Five of Darren Way’s six summer recruits took to the field from the off with James Bailey, captaining the side.

The Glovers controlled possession in the opening exchanges and looked to use the wings as their attacking platform.

Rhys Browne saw two shots in quick succession blocked before Khan went on a mazy run only to be denied by a good stop by goalkeeper Mark Travers.

The former Barnsley man curled over from a 25-yard free kick moments later as Town searched for an opener.

But it was the hosts who grabbed the first goal of the evening through a familiar face to Yeovil supporters.

Right-back Calvin Brooks bombed down the right and fizzed a ball into the six-yard box where Goodship was on hand to tap home.

Weymouth’s lead lasted all of seven minutes as the ever-lively Khan netted a deserved leveller.

The 21-year-old capitalised on a mistake by Travers to calmly slot past the Terras stopper for a goal his performance merited.

Khan continued to be his busy self after the break, dancing down the wing and standing up a cross for Browne whose shot was somehow cleared off the line.

Ex-Grimsby Town attacker Browne was involved in a flowing Yeovil move shortly after, driving in off his wing to tee up Jake Gray but he could only find the arms of Travers.

Then Yeovil got a justified second. After intricate play from the Glovers’ midfield, a pinpoint delivery found Mugabi at the back post and his towering header flew past a helpless Travers.

Southampton loanee Olufela Olomola looked bright off the bench and hit the post with a left-footed strike, but the score remained at 2-1.

A good win against the old rival to kickstart the 2017/18 pre-season campaign. On to the next one.
