HUISH PARK THE PERFECT DESTINATION FOR JONES

3 February 2017

Glowing reports from former and current Town loan stars convinced Owain Jones Huish Park was the perfect place to continue his development.

The 20-year-old, who describes himself as a “sharp, pacy frontman that likes to score goals”, joined the Glovers on loan from Swansea City for the remainder of the season on transfer deadline day.

Jones follows in the footsteps of various players from the Premier League outfit to make the temporary switch to Somerset, and the Wales Under-21 international is relishing his opportunity to shine.

“I’m delighted to make the move,” he told YTFC’s official YouTube channel.

“I’ve spoken to all the boys Sheps (Liam Shephard), Shees (Josh Sheehan), Connor (Roberts), (Ryan) Hedges and they’ve only got good things to say about the club. So have all the staff at Swansea so it was an easy decision for me.

“I think it was the right time in my career to go out and get some men’s football under my belt, and I don’t think there’s anywhere better than Yeovil Town to start.”

Negotiations for the move began at midday on Tuesday and weren’t concluded until 25 minutes left of the window.

The loan is Jones’ first away from Swansea and he admits playing league football is going to be a big test.

“It’s going to be huge,” he said.

“Playing in the Checkatrade Trophy this season you could see even in the two games against men’s teams it’s difficult.

“Under-23 teams like to play a lot of football so it’s a different challenge but it’s one I’m excited for.”

Jones continued: “I have to hit the ground running straight away, play as well as I can and train as hard as I can everyday then it gives me the opportunity to maybe play.

“I’ve seen the standard of the boys here and it’s very good so I’ll have to give it my all.

“Come 3 o’clock tomorrow (against Hartlepool United) I’ll be raring to go. Whether I’m watching or playing I’m going to be really excited.”
