COUNTY'S EXPERIENCE NOTHING TO BE SCARED OF - WAY

23 February 2017

Darren Way insists his young players have “nothing to be scared of” when they come up against some well-known faces in the Notts County squad on Saturday (3pm).

The Magpies boast a wealth of experience in their ranks with former Premier League goal-getter Jon Stead and 10-timed capped Nigeria international Shola Ameobi paired up top, and ex-Manchester United and England man Alan Smith in midfield.

Way is anticipating a tough test at Meadow Lane but says his side are fully focused for the battle ahead.

“Notts County is going to be difficult but so is every game,” he told YTFC’s official YouTube channel.

“We’re coming up against Stead and Ameobi who have a wealth of experience.

“I’ve got younger players going into battles who have experienced that environment.

“It’s nothing to be scared of but we have to make sure we show unbelievable work ethic.

“We know it’s going to be tough but we’ve done our preparation and we’re looking forward to the game.”

Seasoned professional Kevin Nolan is also on the books at County after being appointed player manager in January.

The 34-year-old took over with the Nottinghamshire outfit in the relegation zone but has guided them to 20th in Sky Bet League Two following three wins in five games.

“He’s a high profile player and everyone knows about him,” Way said.

“He will understand how difficult it is as a manager instead of a coach or player. It’s a completely different feeling and pressure.

“He’s got a group of players who are working extremely hard for him.

“He’s probably questioned why they’ve ended up where they are. He’s analysed it and got them back playing the way they were when they were successful.”
