PREVIEW | Yeovil Town v Accrington Stanley

Glovers set for first home fixture of 2017/18.

11 August 2017

The Yeovil team huddle for final instructions at Wolves PPAUK

Town will be hoping to take their encouraging display at Sky Bet Championship outfit Wolves in the Carabao Cup into Saturday’s match at Huish Park.

The Glovers were defensively solid at Molineux, restricting their big-spending opponents to limited chances before eventually succumbing to a 76th-minute goal from Mali international Nouha Dicko.

Prior to that, Darren Way’s side almost grabbed the first goal through Bournemouth loanee Sam Surridge but the youngster couldn’t find the target from just inside the box – something he is looking to make amends for.

There are no injury concerns for Yeovil going into this weekend’s clash with Accrington Stanley.

Stephane Zubar was suffering from a knee injury but has been released after his month-to-month contract wasn’t extended while defender Bevis Mugabi (ankle) returned to the bench in midweek.

Accrington have began the season in fine form, defeating Colchester United 3-1 and following it up with an impressive cup triumph over Lancashire neighbours Preston North End.

Forward Billy Kee scored Stanley’s winner against the second tier team – his second in as many games.

The 26-year-old’s strike partner Kayden Jackson has also been good form, showing off his pace and power to net on the opening day.

John Coleman has said promotion is the aim for Stanley who finished 13th last term.

Head-to-head
The Glovers are unbeaten in three against Stanley (W1 D2).

Both games last season ended in 1-1 draws with the previous game in 2016 finishing 1-0 to Town.

Ryan Dickson was on target that day with a 64th-minute strike to give Yeovil a vital three points in their bid for survival.

Another memorable game was the FA Cup second round replay in 2014. Read about it in Saturday’s matchday programme.

Officials
Christopher Sarginson (Staffordshire) will be the man in the middle this weekend.

Mr. Sarginson’s season began in controversial fashion as he awarded a goal for Charlton Athletic against Bristol Rovers that didn’t cross the line. It proved to be the match winner.

The Staffordshire-born official also handed out a red card in that game. Last term, he sent off seven players and dished out a total of 121 yellows in 41 games.

Yeovil unbeaten with Sarginson officiating in 2016/17, winning one (1-0, Crewe Alexandra away) and drawing two (Portsmouth home and Mansfield Town home, both goalless).

He will be assisted by Marvyn Amphlett (Worcestershire) and Ben Cobb (Dorset) with Dean Treleaven (West Sussex) acting as fourth official.
