MADDISON RELISHING LEAGUE EXPERIENCE

21 April 2017

Jonny Maddison is loving the challenge of league football after making his debut over the Easter weekend.

The young ‘keeper replaced the injured Artur Krysiak at Newport County and was between the sticks again on Easter Monday to keep a clean sheet in the 3-0 win over Crewe Alexandra.

With two EFL appearances under his belt, the 22-year-old reflected on a mixed Easter.

“It’s been a different Easter weekend,” he told YTFC’s official YouTube channel. “On a personal note, it’s the best thing that could’ve happened to me being thrown in.

“Friday was disappointing but in contrast to that, to then win on Monday and get a clean sheet in front of the home fans was brilliant.

“I’m over the moon, delighted for the boys and really happy.”

Having only previously featured in Yeovil’s Checkatrade Trophy run to the quarter-finals, the former Leicester stopper is thankful for the experience he’s gained this season.

“The gaffer here is brilliant at playing his young players and I’m lucky to be a part of that.

“The opportunity given to us here is brilliant, to play league football for someone like myself is invaluable and what I need to get to the next level of my game.”

Maddison will continue in goal for the Glovers this weekend as they travel to Grimsby Town.

With only three games remaining, the youngster is targeting a strong end to the campaign.

“Why can’t we go and win the next three games? A lot of teams in the bottom half are very close to each other.

“If we can go and win three games we’ll push ourselves right up the league and no one will speak of relegation. That’s how football is.

“We have to focus on finishing strong for next year. We worked so hard to get out of this situation so we have to stick the knife in, be more ruthless and get points on the board.”

Town fans can purchase tickets for the trip to Grimsby until 3pm on Friday via the Huish Park ticket office (01935 847888) or online. Tickets remain available on the day with a £2 matchday surcharge applicable (non-junior tickets).
