"WE NEED TO KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING" - RYAN DICKSON

2 March 2016

Match winner Ryan Dickson said several of the Yeovil squad fought through illness to get the three points in the 1-0 win over Accrington Stanley on Tuesday night.

The left-back was suffering from the bug himself but got into the box to score the only goal of the game just after the hour mark and defeat an Accrington side pushing for the playoffs.

After the game, Dickson praised the squad’s professionalism to fight through the illness, although he hopes it ends soon!

“It just seems to go on and on at the moment; when we think it's the end of it, someone else goes down with it!” said Dickson.

“There's a couple of us playing with it today, Jakub obviously went off, I woke up this morning with it, but you just get on with it and do your job. Someone's got to play!”

“I think it's a hard-worked performance with a lot of ill lads playing, some not playing, plus a few injuries, so the team spirit is getting us through games at the moment.”

The three points against Stanley means that, after other results last night, Yeovil are now six points clear of the relegation zone and means that Huish Park is now becoming a fortress.

“It's massive,” said the left-back.

“We need to keep the momentum going; I think it's now nine without a loss at home, so our home form is good. With the win on Saturday, it's now looking a lot better.”

In the first half Yeovil weren’t at the races but with the introduction at half-time of Francois Zoko, who missed the 1-0 win over Dagenham through illness, the front-line started to tick.

And Dickson explained that although the team were defending well, the added attacking threat led them to the three points.

“I think we've been defending well,” said the 29-year-old, “but I think first half going forward there wasn't a lot. We didn't offer a lot, simple as that, and we put ourselves under a lot of pressure.

“But second half we stretched them a lot more. Zoko's got legs and is a threat, and he helped Tahvon get in the game.”
