Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet League Two action on Tuesday night when the Glovers host Wycombe Wanderers at Huish Park with a 7:45pm kick off.
Tickets for the game are still available to all Glovers fans, details can be found in the ‘Tickets’ section of this preview.
The Glovers come back to Huish Park off the back of a four match unbeaten streak that has taken in two different cup competitions as well a couple of league fixtures.
The win of Maidstone with just nine men was followed by progression in the JPT defeating League One high flyers Gillingham on penalties.
Back in League action and Yeovil have drawn two consecutive games against Stevenage and Newport, keeping two sides in and around them within striking distance.
A win this Tuesday could elevate Yeovil out of the bottom two and on the path to recovery.
A Yeovil preview wouldn’t quite be the same without some injury news, so here’s the doctor’s notes from this week.
We know there are four long term absentees; Kevin Dawson and Simon Gillett are on track for a return sometime around the new year while Omar Sowunmi and Jordan Gibbons have both had surgery and are looking at a two or three month spell on the sidelines.
That leaves Marc Laird and Jack Compton as shorter term issues, both are back in training this week and if a place in the match day squad opens up one of these could fill in and mark their return.
Of course, there have been the recent additions of Darren Ward and Francois Zoko who have joined on short term deals.
Finally, Jakub Sokolik has now completed his three game spell out through suspension and is available for selection again.
Wycombe’s form has seen them drop to 11th in the table, with 26 points on the board, but they have only recorded a single league victory since a 1-0 win over Cambridge back in September.
They have lost out to Northampton, Stevenage and Newport whilst drawing against Carlisle, and on Saturday, Wimbledon.
Wimbledon did salvage their draw in the dying minutes at the weekend, Ade Azeez scoring deep into added on time after Jason McCarthy had scored, what looked like being, the winner.
McCarthy, on loan from Southampton, had earlier in the week extended his loan spell at Adam’s Park.
Despite that, Wycombe failed to name a full bench on Saturday and with Michael Harriman one yellow card away from suspension, they could be thin on numbers of the next couple of games.
As you’ll read below, Yeovil have an excellent record over Wycombe and you can be at Huish Park to see if that record can continue this coming Tuesday night.
Last time we met
The two teams haven’t crossed paths since the season that saw Yeovil promoted out of League One, but it wasn’t a match for three points, rather it was the Johnstones Paint Trophy which pitted the two teams together.
In the southern area quarter final, Yeovil overcame Wanderers by a score of 2-0, goals from Ed Upson and Sam Foley sending the Glovers through to face Leyton Orient in the semi-finals.
Prior to that, the season before, the two teams met and on both occasions Yeovil came out on top.
It was a 1-0 win at Huish Park and a 3-2 win for the Glovers away from home.
In fact, Yeovil’s record in this fixture is pretty good, Wycombe haven’t won since the early 1990’s and Yeovil have won five out of the six league meetings as well as that aforementioned JPT game.
They couldn’t even record a win in a 2010 friendly game between the two sides.
Tickets for Tuesday’s game are available from the three usual sources right up until kick off.
