ANOTHER WEEK AND ANOTHER LOAD OF FOOTBALL DRAMA

3 September 2014

Yeovil Town fan and writer Sheridan Robins pens her weekly view on football.

Another week, another load of football drama. From a Yeovil point of view we got a valuable point at home to Barnsley and were unlucky to win in what was a brilliant second half performance.

Followed up by a disappointing exit in the Johnstones Paint Trophy, it was a night to forget and as always we move on to the next one positive once again.

Welcome to Jack Price who joined the Glovers on transfer deadline day, the Wolves midfielder is highly rated by Kenny Jackett and their fans on twitter so I cannot wait to see him in action again after his debut last night as a substitute.

Speaking of transfer deadline day, how exciting was it?! The amount of money that was exchanged never seizes to amaze me, it is hard to even comprehend. Here are my picks of the top transfers on one of the most dramatic of deadline days:

Radamel Falcao – Monaco to Manchester Utd
Falcao has completed a season long loan to struggling United and will earn a phenomenal £346,000 a week following his £6 million move. The highly rated Colombian striker will earn £34 a second, meaning that if he dropped a £20 note, it would not be worth his time to pick it up. How crazy is that?! His introduction should give United the lift they need, with that sort of money invested , surely now the goals will start to flow?

Hatem Ben Arfa – Newcastle to Hull
Hull City have had a very successful transfer window signing Uruguay striker Abel Hernandez from Palermo for a club record £10 million. Ben Arfa has also joined from fellow Premier League side Newcastle and the pacy winger will no doubt add to their attacking squad. Hull look to be one of the sides to watch this year and could surprise us all after some very shrewd business.

Tom Lawrence – Manchester Utd to Leicester
A familiar face to all Glovers, as the former Yeovil Town loanee makes a permanent switch to Premier League new boys Leicester. Despite making his debut for the Red Devils under Ryan Giggs at the end of last season, the arrival of Van Gaal would have only limited opportunities for the midfielder. Lawrence remains in the Premier League and once again a former YTFC player will feature on Match Of The Day.

Luciano Becchio – Norwich to Rotherham
Having lost Kieran Agard to Bristol City, Rotherham then beat Leeds United to the loan signing of Becchio. Having not made a first team appearance for the Canaries this season, his experience could really benefit Rotherham who have made a mixed start to their season in the Championship. Leeds United were hopeful of re-  signing the 30 year old having sold Matt Smith to rivals Fulham, but the clubs turmoil  continues as the Millers came out on top.

As well as these, former Glovers loanee and fans favourite Shane Duffy has left Everton in favour of a move to Championship side Blackburn. After such a solid season with Yeovil, I am sure he will do just as well, good luck Shane.

Goal of the Week
There have been some great goals over the last week or so, but my award this week goes to Scunthorpe United’s Gary McShreffrey for this sublime finish against Walsall on Saturday. He hit it like he meant it! Brilliant!

So, next up we face a tricky trip to Bradford after what has been a fantastic start to the season for them, but if we play like we did in the second half last Saturday, I am sure the boys will bring back the three points! Until next week, have a good one and make sure none of you drop £20 on the floor, will matter to the rest of us.
