PREVIEW: DERBY COUNTY

27 January 2014

Ben Barrett previews the trip to Derby County.

Yeovil Town are back in league action this Tuesday and it’s another away day with a visit to the iPro Stadium and Derby County next up in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Glovers are looking to continue their spirited performance in the FA Cup against Southampton and turn it into league points.

Over 3000 fans followed the Glovers to St Mary’s on Saturday and they would have seen enough in the performance to believe that league survival can be achieved despite the 2-0 loss.

Earlier in the season, Derby County visited Huish Park and a much changed Glovers side succumbed to a 3-0 defeat.

Wayne Hennessey, Michael N’Goo, Alan Tate, Dan Seaborne, Paddy Madden and Andy Williams all featured in the loss, none of them are even with the club for the return fixture.

It’s not just Tuesday’s visitors that have made changes, Derby too have made one pretty big switch. Nigel Clough has since vacated the manager’s office and he has been replaced by former England gaffer, Steve McClaren.

Since McClaren’s appointment, the Rams have pushed up the league and cemented their place in the play-off positions.

Back in August, Chris Martin was the main threat for the Rams and he currently sits on 15 goals for the season, but there is a new kid in town.

Patrick Bamford on loan from Chelsea has scored twice in three appearances. Bamford scored a hatful for MK Dons earlier in the season and has shown early signs of stepping up to the Championship.

Derby’s more immediate form hasn’t been quite so smooth; the faced Blackburn on Saturday drawing 1-1, prior to that a 1-0 win over Brighton was their only win in January.

They exited the FA Cup at the hands of Chelsea and were beaten by both Leicester and Wigan.

Yeovil have actually notched up two victories so far this month, a 4-0 drubbing of Leyton Orient and a very impressive 2-0 win over Birmingham.

Yeovil have had to take on the busy set of fixtures with a worrying amount of injuries in the squad.

Sam Hoskins, Liam Davis and Nathan Ralph all missed the Southampton game and are set for more time on the side lines, Jamie McAllister returned to left back following injury and will be hoping the quick turnaround won’t cause him any problems.

Whilst up front, Ishmael Miller’s return will keep Kieffer Moore and James Hayter on their toes as the recent goal scorers battle with the Nottingham Forest loanee for a place in the starting eleven.

It’s the third out of four consecutive away days for Yeovil and tickets are available on the gate for supporters who don’t mind clocking up the miles.
However, Glovers Player and all the usual social networks will have the game covered from all the usual angles for those who cannot make it.

If you are missing your football fix at Huish Park, tickets for Leeds (Sat Feb 8th), Millwall (Tues Feb 11th) and all the other home fixtures for the season are available from the ticket office or YTFC.net

A reminder that due to Wigan’s continued participation in the FA Cup, the fixture with Yeovil on Feb 15th will need to be rearranged.
