The day kicked off with 1st Team Manager, Sarah Lawler, and Club Captain, Rachael Edwards, featuring on a live breakfast show with BBC Somerset. Also participating was Stephen Allinson, YTFC and YTLFC board member and FA WSL committee member.
"All eyes are on the ladies team ahead of first ever season in FA Women's Super League" says presenter Simon Parkin. But what does this mean for the Glovers? "We will be playing in the top level of women's football", explains Lawler.
"We are now part of the top 18 women's clubs in England, and it feels great". Of course, playing at the highest level does come with a certain amount of pressure, but not for captain Edwards; "Everyone is so excited to get started to worry about the pressure! It's been a long pre-season with lots of preparation, but now that the fixtures are out we can't wait to get going. We've got some really big games coming up, including games against WSL 1 teams."
The Glover's campaign kicks off on Wednesday, 16th April, against Southern rivals Reading Ladies at the Madesjski Stadium. "Everyone is really exited about that first game", says Edwards. "Walking out onto the pitch, it's going to be an incredible experience, it's such an amazing stadium." The ladies first home game of the season will follow, on Sunday, 20th April against London Bees at Sherborne Town FC, Raleigh Grove.
