Yeovil Town fan and writer Sheridan Robins pens her weekly view on football.Well, what a week it has been. Our beloved Yeovil Town have finally got some points on the board and last Tuesday’s win at Walsall showed everyone that we are back. I made the trip up to Walsall to watch the boys get their first win.
Lucky for me it is a short journey from Bedfordshire and so my Dad, my sister Adelaide and I all left at 5pm and we were all set by 6.45...less stressful than a home match for us.
I had a good feeling about the game as we seem to always do well at Walsall and as usual I was right....haha! In all seriousness though, our all round performance was much improved, the midfield in particular impressing.
James Hayter showed us all what we already knew, that he has still got it and will be a key player this season. Kevin Dawson ran ragged all evening and deservedly got his goal. The celebrations having conceded just a minute earlier were amazing, I love seeing the fans and players all going mad.
I am also so pleased for Kieffer Moore who scored his first goal of the campaign on Saturday, I have every faith it will be the first of many. Although a certain Paddy Madden spoiled our celebrations, it was great he got such a rousing reception and that he decided not to celebrate his goal. Good luck for the rest of the season Paddy and we all look forward to the re match. Four points on the board and the only way is up.
As for the rest of the football world, it has been another tough weekend for Manchester United as they could only muster a draw at Sunderland and were humiliated in the League Cup by Mk Dons last night losing 4-0. Leicester were cruelly beaten 2 – 0 by Chelsea.
Arsenal and Everton played out an entertaining 2 – 2 draw and Manchester City beat fellow title hopefuls Liverpool 3-1. I am loving this season’s Premier League already with some great football being played.
Burnley played a really strong passing game as they did last season, but could not find that killer finish and went down 1 – 0 to Swansea - sound familiar? I will be hoping they can pull it off and stay up this season.
Goal of The Week
No weekend is complete without Match Of The Day and The Football League Show and after watching this week I have to give goal of the week to Connor Hourihane of Barnsley for this beauty:
What a strike! Let’s hope he has had his moment now and it will be Simon Gillett with a thunderbolt for us on Saturday.
It has also been a busy week for the ALS Ice Bucket challenge, it is great watching all the videos, I particularly enjoyed Sam Hoskins, Joe Edwards and Kevin Dawson’s efforts...great stuff lads.
Gary Johnson has also taken part, so if you have been nominated there are no excuses – well done Gaffer!
Here is mine and I can tell you...it was FREEZING! If you do take part don’t forget to donate by texting ICED55 followed by the amount you would like to donate.
As for YTFC, it will be a big test on Saturday as we host Barnsley in our next League One game, but I am sure we can get a result as well as a bit of revenge for last season.
