GARY DELIGHTED TO HAVE SELECTION HEADACHE

5 August 2014

After Yeovil rounded off their pre-season with a comprehensive 9-0 victory against Dorchester, manager Gary Johnson was left delighted with his selection headache.

Strike duo Sam Hoskins and James Hayter netted a hat-trick each, whilst additional goals from Seth Nana Twumasi, Matteo Lanzoni and Sam Foley rounded off the rout.

With Town's strikers scoring 18 goals between them in pre-season, Johnson is pleased to have selection decisions to make ahead of the opening League One fixture against Doncaster on Saturday.

“It's always good for strikers to hit the back of the net whatever level you're playing at,” said Johnson.

“We know that we've got four or five strikers who can hit the back of the net at the moment and going into the season, if I've got to choose between four or five strikers that are hitting the back of the net it's a good thing for the manager.Whether they're on the pitch or on the bench everyone is going to be used for the first month or so because there are so many games.”

Whilst the Yeovil boss was left pleased with his side's potency, assistant manager Terry Skiverton was more impressed by the clean sheet, according to Johnson.

“The clean sheet was good, that was Terry's view, he would have roasted them and run them after the game if they had have let in a goal, because a clean sheet was important to us.

“We had a different little shape out there to suit all the players that we wanted to play, so we thought we'd have a look at it and the boys - other than the first ten minutes when they got caught out a few times - worked it out and we looked quite potent, so I'm really pleased with the night's work.”
