COMMUNITY TRUST HELP LOCAL STAR

30 September 2013

Every Season each Football League Club receives a share from the Community Shield fund. This year, Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust and Yeovil Town F.C. are pleased to be able to use that money to help and support Great Britain Skeleton star Donna Creighton, who lives in Yeovil.

Donna's dream is to compete at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. However, she receives no funding to support her life as an athlete, so therefore has to support herself whilst she travels for testing and specialised training on the Push Track at the outstanding facilities at the University of Bath.

As a Skeleton Athlete, Donna must negotiate a series of tricky twists and turns, on a one-person sled that offers little protection from the ice or barriers, while reaching speeds of up to 140km/h.

Last Monday, Trust managers, Sara Bradley and Roy O’Brien had the pleasure of representing both the Trust and the Club and joined the British Skeleton Team at Cumberwell Golf Club in Bradford on Avon.

The day, which combined 18 holes of golf followed by a drinks reception and dinner with Amy Williams MBE (Gold Medallist in Vancouver) was organised to send off the Skeleton team for the season, ahead of the Winter Olympics in Sochi in February 2014.

Speaking about the event, Sara Bradley said: “We were absolutely delighted to represent the Trust at the British Skeleton Golf day and Dinner.

“The whole day was extremely well organised and combined with Nigel Laughton, David Henwood and their team’s gracious hospitality this made the day one we will always remember.

“We gained such a valuable insight into the work that they do and it was lovely to have the opportunity to meet Donna as well as Amy Williams MBE who is not only fantastic Ambassador for future Athletes, but for young women.

“We are pleased and honoured to be able to support Donna and look forward to working with her and the British Skeleton Team in the future.”
