WILLIAMS LEAVES LADIES TEAM

8 July 2013

Joint Manager Nigel Williams leaves Yeovil Town Ladies FC

Yeovil Town Ladies FC are sad to announce that Joint First Team Manager Nigel Williams has left the club as he has decided the increased time demands of being a Manager in the FA WSL, are not compatible with his work commitments.

Williams was appointed Joint Manager in March 2011 along with fellow Joint Manager Sarah Lawler and Assistant Chris White. Since then the trio have led the club to three Somerset FA Women’s Senior Cup wins, a South West Combination title (when the team went unbeaten in the league) and then last season, a highest ever Premier League finish.

Williams was sad to see his time at the club end when he said, “"Although I am pleased that the club has had success in the WSL licensing process; I do not want to commit that amount of time and travel to it. I wish the club the very best with the future in the WSL".

Commenting on Williams’ departure, Club Chairman David Mills said, “We are very sad to see Nigel leave us as he has been part of the most amazing two years in the club’s history. I cannot speak highly enough of what he has done for this club.

Next year we will be an FA WSL team and Nigel has played a big part in helping us get to the Super League. Nigel is a highly professional Coach and Manager who is also extremely well liked and respected by everyone at the club.  I also want to pay tribute to Nigel’s wife, Jude Williams. Jude is also hugely popular within YTLFC as well as being a fantastic volunteer for the club and she too will be very much missed”.

Williams’ departure means an end to the Joint Manager system the club has operated for the last two years and Sarah Lawler will now be the Club’s only First Team Manager. Commenting on this, Mills said “The Joint Manager set up was originally a temporary measure due to circumstances that applied at that time.

Therefore that system now ends and our First Team Manager is Sarah Lawler. Sarah is a brilliant Manager and is very well supported by Chris White (Assistant First Team Manager) so I have no doubt we will continue to be successful”.

Mills also revealed that the club is bringing on board a UEFA A licence coach, Peter Amos who will be joining the club as the 1st team head coach.

Commenting on this Mills said “Peter will be mentoring Sarah through her UEFA A Licence course and will focus on the development of the senior set up.  We also have the expertise of UEFA B Licence GK coach Tony Rich for the senior squad. Peter and Tony’s involvement is a vital part of our plans to develop as high quality FA WSL club”.
