Town fans vote with their stomachs to bring in new catering facilities
The transfer window may now be closed, but Yeovil Town have unveiled a new tasty signing that will have the Glovers’ faithful salivating at Huish Park this season.
After winning £20,000 via the Fanpower Stadium competition, which was run by The Football League title sponsors npower, Yeovil Town have bought a state-of-the-art catering van that will serve the Football League’s only Somerset-based club this season and beyond.
Having been the driving force behind the cash windfall, the Yeovil Town fans were given the chance to vote on how the prize money was spent within the club.
In a clear indication that football fans need as much fuelling as the players, the fans voted almost unanimously to improve catering facilities and the Yeovil management duly obliged with the catering van.
As well as serving a wide variety of matchday munch, all proceeds from the van will go to Yeovil Town – giving fans extra incentive to fill themselves up.
Adrian Hopper, Head of Media at Yeovil Town said;
“As the fans were responsible for winning us these funds, it was only fair that we put the decisions in their hands. The voting couldn’t have been any more decisive, so we were happy to use the money to improve our matchday offering.
“The fans showed real hunger to win this prize, so we’ve rewarded their appetite quite literally and want to extend our thanks to npower for supplying the prize money.”
Hosted on Facebook, the competition rewarded the club who had the most fans “take a seat” in the virtual Fanpower Stadium, and therefore achieve the highest attendance.
The Somerset side ran away with the £20,000 participation pot, with their loyal fans signing up in droves and then taking to Twitter and Facebook to show their support. In the 11 week long competition, Yeovil Town fans signed up and generated nearly 12,000 noise counts mentioning their beloved Glovers.
Sue Heritage, PR Sponsorship Manager from npower, said;
“We’re delighted to be handing over the prize fund to Yeovil Town and their fans, who clearly seized the opportunity to support their club with unrivalled passion.
“The whole point of these prizes was to reward fans. With the crowd well fed, their support will undoubtedly raise a few decibels and help Yeovil devour a victory or two!”
