Darren Way was pleased with Town’s never-say-die attitude after Liam Shephard’s last-gasp equaliser earned them a share of the spoils at Barnet.

The Glovers took the lead courtesy of the forever busy Ben Whitfield, who charged down goalkeeper Benjamin Buchel’s kick and saw the ball loop into the back of the net, before the Bees equalised on the half-hour mark through a bundled effort credited to Michael Nelson.

Five minutes from time, Barnet midfielder Ryan Watson looked to have won it for the hosts when his long range free kick evaded everyone and nestled in the far corner but Liam Shephard’s low finish in stoppage time – his first professional goal – restored parity and earned Town a deserved point.

“We don’t give up,” Way told YTFC’s official YouTube channel.

“We’re a really hungry and honest group and I’ve tried to get the group to believe in never giving up and what you could see, certainly towards there, we threw caution to the wind, went three up front, three at the back and fair play to the players, it worked.

“Shephard was getting down one side, Dickson down the other and we were really pleased with that.”

He continued: “The players looked controlled, calm in possession considering we were 2-1 down against the run of play but they kept going and it’s that never-say-die attitude which will take them a long way.

“To see the supporters celebrating with the players just shows how much it means to everyone to perform away to a Barnet team with (John) Akinde up front, who causes all sorts of problems, and get a good draw. 

“We were disappointed we conceded two goals from set-plays but overall as a group and football club we’re really pleased.”
