Yeovil ended a slump of six straight league defeats as they defeated Colchester 3-1 at Huish Park. A brace by debutant striker Paddy Madden and a James Hayter strike saw off the resurgent U’s.
The home side took the lead in the 21st minute when Madden, who finalised a one-month loan deal from Carlisle United on Thursday, pounced after goalkeeper Mark Cousins failed to hold Hayter’s initial effort. Colchester hit back four minutes later when Sanchez Watt’s teasing cross found Gavin Massey, who knocked the ball into the direction of the lurking Jabo Ibehre to tuck away his third goal in as many games.
Joe Dunne felt that his side “got what they deserved,” following yesterday’s disappointing 3-1 defeat at Yeovil.
Following on from back-to-back victories against Hartlepool and at Swindon, below-par Colchester United produced a lack-lustre display at Huish Park, conceding goals to Paddy Madden (2) and James Hayter. The U’s had briefly threatened a comeback, when Jabo Ibehre poached a 25th minute equaliser, but by the end Yeovil ran out convincing winners. “Two wins from three is a decent return. Six points from the week you would take,” explained Dunne.

The U’s went behind in the twentieth minute, as debutant Patrick Madden scored from the rebound after Mark Cousins had saved James Hayter’s effort. Jabo Ibehre scored four minutes later, tapping in from close range after Bean, Watt and Massey had combined to create the chance. On thirty three minutes, the home side regained the lead, as Madden scored his second with a volley from the edge of the penalty area. The only goal in the second half came from James Hayter, lifting his near post effort high into the U’s net.
