The 26-year-old, who has been training with Town for the last few weeks, will wear number 20 and is available for the Glovers’ Emirates FA Cup second round match at Port Vale on Saturday.

A trainee at Southampton, Birmingham-born Gobern made just over 20 outings for Saints before a four-year spell with Huddersfield Town following a £275,000 move from Hampshire, rising to £400,000.

Signed by Lee Clark, the box-to-box midfielder was described as having a “cultured left foot” and being “very good on the ball.”

The ex-MK Dons loanee made more than 70 league appearances for the Terriers and helped the Yorkshire outfit earn promotion to the Sky Bet Championship, enjoying three campaigns in the country’s second division thereafter.

Heading south, Gobern signed for Queens Park Rangers in 2015, ironically making his debut against Yeovil in the League Cup tie at Huish Park.

Joining Doncaster Rovers on loan later in the campaign, the former England Under-19 international’s season was cut short by an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Having recovered from the injury setback, he had short spells with Mansfield Town and Ross County last season before arriving in Somerset.

On capturing the free agent’s services, Darren Way said: “Oscar has been with us for three weeks now and from speaking to his previous managers and coaches he’s a very determined and committed player.

“They’re all the ingredients we need to improve our squad.”
