The 27-year-old has been absent due to a torn hamstring since December and was selected from the start as Town overcame Barnet at Huish Park.

It was just his third game for the club since joining on a free transfer and he now wants to cement his place in the side.

“It was great to be back on Tuesday after being out for so long,” Gobern told iFollow Glovers.

“The gaffer put a lot of faith in me to go out and play and start the game; I hope I repaid him and the team.

“The team have been great so it was good to come back into a confident bunch and get the three points.”

He continued: “The team is young and vibrant which is a positive and you come into work knowing you’re going to be around an enthusiastic bunch. We’ve got a good strong squad and everyone is trying to fight for the same thing.

“You have to be 100 per cent at it every day. We’ve got some top central midfielders here fighting for two positions and if you’re not at it then you could be in question.

“My intention is to play as many games as I can and keep working hard. It’s down to me to keep the shirt and keep performing well.”

Gobern will hope to retain his spot in central midfield when the Glovers travel to Stevenage on Saturday (3pm).

Darren Way’s men are unbeaten in five in all competitions and Gobern insists the belief they can go to Broadhall Way and win is strong.

“Stevenage have always been a good, young, solid team,” he said.

“They should be a test but our thought process is we can beat anyone and we’ve shown that over the past few weeks.

“We hope we’ve made a turn and have a habit of winning. There’s a feel good factor around the changing room, everyone is buzzing and that can only bode well. When you step over the white line you have to fight for the cause and for each other.

“We’ve got the momentum and it’s up to us to take the game to them.”
