The young midfielder joined Town on loan from Barnsley on Thursday and was selected from the start against Bradford City in the Emirates FA Cup third round just 48 hours later.

Ex-Derby County youth product Bird starred as the Glovers ran out 2-0 winners over their Sky Bet League One counterparts and was delighted to get off to a winning start.

“To make my debut was a really good feeling and to get the win was even better,” he told iFollow Glovers.

“I think I’ve got to grips with the names! You have to as it’s such a quick turnaround. They’re all good lads and it’s been good so far.

“If you’re going to go a long way in football you have to deal with it and take it in your stride as it happens to everyone.

“You have to get involved from the off. I thought we did well and we definitely deserved to win.”

Bird continued: “The gaffer said we were the lowest ranked club left in the competition so to beat Bradford who are doing really well in League One just shows how good we can be this season.

“I’m really looking forward (to the rest of the loan spell) and hopefully I can play a lot of games for Yeovil, climb up the table and have a good cup run.”

Asked who he would like in the next round with clubs such as Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur still in the hat, Bird replied: “We’ll take any of the big teams away! Go big or go home.”

The draw for the fourth round will be live on BBC 2 and BT Sport from 7pm this evening.
