ACADEMY | Under-18s topple league leaders Bournemouth

Young Glovers record first home league win since September

23 October 2017

Steve Arnold

Town Under-18s recorded their first home win in the EFL Youth Alliance since the beginning of September with an impressive 2-1 victory over league leaders AFC Bournemouth.

Forward Nestor Sako scored a brace for the junior Glovers who ended the Cherries’ six-match winning run at Huish Park, condemning them to their first defeat of the season.

It relatively comfortable first period for the hosts who dominated possession and restricted Bournemouth to limited opportunities on goal.

Yeovil made the breakthrough on 17 minutes, deservedly taking the lead through Sako’s third goal of the campaign.

Midfielder Jack Hilton-Jones won the ball back in the middle of the park and released Neville Nzembela; his slide-rule pass found Sako who needed two attempts to find the back of the net.

Sako made it 2-0 just before the break with the cheeky chip.

The young forward controlled Gabriel Rogers’ cutback from the byeline and superbly scooped the ball over the away keeper to double the Green and Whites’ advantage.

Bournemouth had a lot of possession in the second half but struggled to get the better of a stubborn home defence.

However, they did claw one back with 15 minutes to go to set up a nervy finish, although it proved to be their only attempt in the closing stages.

Town almost restored their two-goal lead late on when Devon Arnold struck the post but Paul Wilson and Antonio Falanga’s side had already done enough to secure three points.
