PREVIEW | Chorley vs Yeovil Town

The Glovers return to league action

25 October 2019

Yeovil Town return to league action on Saturday (3pm) as the Glovers travel North to face Chorley.

Having not played at Victory Park since 1989, Town fans can enjoy a trip to unfamiliar surroundings.

The hosts have enjoyed a resurgence in recent years under the management of former player Jamie Vermiglio, who led the Magpies to promotion from the National League North last year.

The Glovers will look to bounce-back after falling short in the last league outing against Harrogate Town at Huish Park.

Head-to-head

Town have not clashed with Chorley since 1990, when Mickey Spencer netted twice to secure a 2-1 victory.

In our five previous meetings with the Magpies, the record books are overwhelmingly positive, with the green and whites boasting four victories and just one defeat.

The sole defeat came in our last trip to Victory Park with Chorley running out the 3-2 victors.

The most memorable encounter came in our first meeting with this weekend’s hosts as the Glovers were 5-2 victors in the second round of the FA Trophy.

Officials

Andrew Kitchen will be the man in the middle on Saturday afternoon at Victory Park. This will be Kitchen’s tenth game of the season, after taking charge of both Premier League 2 and National League action so far.

Kitchen will be supported by Ben Wyatt and Alistair Nelson, with Darren Rogers acting as the fourth official.

REPORT | Chorley 1-2 Yeovil Town

Late heroics secure three points

26 October 2019

Late heroics from Rhys Murphy spared Yeovil Town’s blushes as the Glovers battled to a 2-1 victory.

After taking a first half lead through Matt Worthington, the hosts would equalise in the second half to make a real game of it.

Murphy would leave it late to strike Yeovil in front, heading home to secure all three points.

Darren Sarll made four changes to the side that faced Haringey Borough last weekend.

It was a return for Courtney Duffus, who was unavailable last weekend due to the artificial pitch.

Suspensions for Charlie Lee and Luke Wilkinson offered opportunities for Albi Skendi and Tom Bradbury to start in their preferred positions.

Remeao Hutton started in the place of Craig Alcock after replacing the full-back last weekend during the first half. Myles Hippolyte also returned to the side in an unfamiliar full-back role.

Yeovil began the game on the front foot, stroking the ball around nicely, dominating the tempo of the game.

It would not take long for the Glovers to strike ahead, after a determined run from Murphy, the forward laid the ball off into the path of Worthington to fire into the bottom corner in the 7thminute.

The hosts struggled to create any chances of note with the green and whites back-line resolute despite the suspension of Wilkinson.

Despite a lot of the ball, Town struggled to create any more clear-cut opportunities, the best falling to Jimmy Smith who saw his header strike the bar twice.

At the break the Glovers held a deserved lead.

The Magpies began to grow into the game during the early stages of the second half, but still struggled to get beyond the green and whites backline.

It would take until the 70th minute for Chorley to finally break through. A goal-mouth scramble saw the ball drop to Ntumba Massanka who poked the hosts level.

Yeovil looked to bounce back as substitute Gold Omotayo found Smith charging into the box, but his effort was tame.

After a brilliant James Tilley free kick, the Glovers would have the ball in the back of the net, but the smiles were soon wiped from Yeovil faces as Tom Bradbury was adjudged to be offside.

The 86th minute would see late heroics from Murphy. After Tilley's outstanding cross, the forward headed his ninth goal of the season to ensure the three points would return to Somerset.

Yeovil Town: Nelson; Hutton, Bradbury, Collins, Hippolyte; Skendi, Worthington (Tilley), D'Ath, Smith (Dagnall); Duffus (Omotayo), Murphy.

Bookings: Smith, Duffus.

Subs not used: McCoy, Arnold.
