Yeovil Town were held to a goalless draw by Taunton Town in the second game of pre-season on Tuesday evening.

After a convincing win against Sherborne, the Glovers were frustrated by Taunton who more than held their own in the county town.

Ultimately, it was a night that few would remember, with chances few and far between throughout.

After being the National League’s most fouled player last season, Knowles picked up where he left off, winning Town a free-kick 35-yards from goal with two minutes on the clock. It was Knowles who stepped up and had the Glovers’ first sight of goal, firing well over the bar.

Five minutes later, Sam Perry, who had signed that day, had his first shot in Green & White, sending a first-time effort wide of goal from the edge of the box.

At the other end, Taunton proved no pushovers going close following a well worked set play routine.

Will Buse, who put in a strong performance in the Taunton net, was first called to action with 18 minutes on the clock, with a trialist sending an effort on target.

Taunton’s best chance of the first half fell to David Simms-Burgess. After Grant Smith parried a free-kick away, the former Yate man pounced but Max Hunt was there to clear.

With 34 minutes on the clock, Hunt met Knowles’ free-kick, the ball looked destined for the net, but a superb save from Will Buse kept the score level.

In the final moments of the half, strong penalty claims from Town were waved away, but the Glovers didn’t drop their heads, recycling the ball to Knowles who saw his effort from the edge of the box fly narrowly over.

Starting on the front foot in the second half, the Glovers secured an opportunity from the spot with 52 minutes played. Knowles stepped up, but continuing his strong form, Buse was equal to his effort.

In truth the second half struggled to find any flow, with a number of trialists introduced looking to earn themselves a contract at Huish Park. Also introduced was youngsters Ollie Haste and Toby Stephens.

This saw chances dry up, as the game came to a close in a stop-start fashion.

Next up for the Glovers is a home clash against Exeter City on Saturday afternoon (3pm).
