Town made the relatively short trip to face high flying Plymouth Argyle and on a rough looking pitch fell to a 1-0 defeat.

A second half goal from Ryan Brunt after Chris Weale initially saved a long range Craig Tanner shot ensured all three points stayed in Devon

Darren Way selected the same eleven that earned a 1-1 draw the previous week against Leyton Orient.

Marc Laird returned to the squad and claimed a spot on the bench in the place of Tottenham Hotspur loanee Christian Maghoma.

The home side started brightly with the strong wind behind them and looked to make the wind count early on.

Within the first two minutes they could have opened the scoring when Gregg Wylde’s cross hit the knee of Threlkeld and went over the bar.

Just after the 15-minute mark Town struck the bar after Matty Dolan picked the ball up a full 30-yards from goal. The former Middelsbrough man unleashed a left-footed strike that dipped late and with keeper McCormick seemingly letting the shot ‘go’ the ball bounced back off the bar and away to safety.

At the other end Town stopper Weale had to be on his toes to gather a shot from the edge of the area from Wylde.

Three minutes into the second half Weale was again called into action to deny a Jervis free-kick from just out side the area.

Jervis curled the ball over the Town wall with his right boot, only for Weale to dive to his left and palm the ball away to safety.

The home side opened the scoring just before the hour mark when Craig Tanner’s shot from distance was palmed away by Weale.

Striker Brunt was the quickest to react to slide the loose ball home under Weale from close range.

In the dying stages substitute Jack Compton’s free kick was met by the head of Darren Ward, but the skippers head went over the Argyle cross bar.
