Town made the 546-mile round trip to face Fleetwood Town and returned to Huish Park empty handed after a heavy 4-0 defeat.

Two goals from David Ball and a strike from Jamie Proctor inside the first 35 minutes saw the home side head into half time 3-0 up.

Although Town rallied in the second half and had the majority of the second half possession they failed to really test Maxwell in the Fleetwood goal and conceded a 4th when substitute Ashley Hunter scored with less than ten minutes remaining.

Manager Terry Skiverton made one change from the starting eleven that lost to Chesterfield on Good Friday with Joel Grant getting a recall in the place of Ajay Leitch-Smith.

Town started brightly and nearly opened the scoring within the first minute. Sam Foley picked up loose ball on the edge of the area to unleash a volley at goal. Long term Fleetwood defender Nathan Pond was on hand to provide a vital block for the home side.

Despite the bright start by the Glovers they found themselves a goal down after seven minutes when a cross from the right wing was headed back across goal by Pond into the path of Ball, who made no mistake from close range.

The home side doubled their lead after a fine solo effort from Ball. The former Peterborough United man ran at the Town defence and his shot from 20 yards beat a diving Artur Krysiak to nestle in the corner of the net.

Fleetwood made it 3-0 after 32 minutes when Proctor received a perfect through ball from previous goal scorer Ball to comfortably slot home from 12 yards.

Town started the second half on the front foot and nearly pulled a goal back after Stephen Kingsley’s curling free kick had to be tipped over the bar by keeper Maxwell in the Fleetwood goal.

With less than ten minutes remaining the home side scored a fourth with their first attack of the second half when Hunter swept Proctor’s cross from the right home.
