Yeovil Town will play their first FA Trophy game in almost two years as Woking visit Huish Park on Saturday afternoon.

After pulling out of the competition last year due to COVID infections within the Yeovil camp, Darren Sarll will be hoping his side can continue their stunning unbeaten run.

The hosts will be coming into the game with a point to prove, after a positive start to the season, Woking have hit a sticky patch of form and will be looking for the Trophy to reignite their campaign.

Darren Sarll’s thoughts

Speaking ahead of the fixture, he said: “Terry (Skiverton) will speak about it (Yeovil’s connection to the FA Trophy) before the game tomorrow, like he’s done so previously when we’ve had something come up which the club has a tradition in.

“I’m sure players like (Dan) Moss, Jordan (Barnett), (Morgan) Williams, (Dale) Gorman, all the young lads who have recently joined, they’re not going to understand the FA Trophy was the first major trophy the club won. What they do understand is we’ve found a process of winning and it’s very important we keep that going.”

Team news

Jordan Barnett is likely to be involved once again after a lay-off with illness. With COVID-19 wreaking havoc for a number of teams, Yeovil will have Morgan Williams isolating following a positive test.

Have we met before?

This will be our second clash with the Cards this season, having already met in the National League in October. That result went in the Glovers’ favour as goals from Tom Knowles and Charlie Wakefield secured a 2-0 victory.

Since returning to the National League, Sarll’s side actually hold an unbeaten home record against the Cards, winning all three meetings between the two sides.

A foot in the opposition camp

Woking Football Club, known as the Cards (from the Cardinal red of the red and white halves), was formed in 1887. Managed by Alan Dowson, he managed Woking to promotion from the National League South at the first attempt in 2018/19, and his side have remained in the National League ever since.

The star man for the visitors is Max Kretzschmar, having followed Dowson from Hampton & Richmond Borough to Woking, the midfielder has been a mainstay ever since, even becoming involved with the academy coaching department at the club.
