3rd December 2021

Darren Sarll will face his former club Stevenage on Saturday evening (5:30pm) as Yeovil Town hunt for a place in the Emirates FA Cup Third Round for the first time since 2018.

The Glovers, who come into the fixture unbeaten since 23rd October, will be hoping to add another Football League scalp to their record, and become the FA Cup’s all-time giant killers (most victories for a non-league side against an EFL club).

Our visitors Stevenage will be hoping to spoil the occasion, with manager Paul Tisdale taking charge for the first time.

Darren Sarll’s thoughts

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Sarll said: “It’s been a strange week because of the rearranged game on Tuesday, it’s meant we’ve not had time to process tomorrow.

“We came in on Wednesday largely for recovery and had the day off on Thursday. Today (Friday) is the first day we’ve had to think about it.

“It’s a good game, it’s another exciting one, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to facing Stevenage.”

Team news

Tom Knowles may return to the fold on Saturday evening after being forced off against Dover with a head injury. The FA Cup clash may also see the long-awaited return of Reuben Reid to the Yeovil Town team for the first time since pre-season.

Mark Little, Joe Quigley and Jack Robinson remain unavailable.

A foot in the opposition camp

It’s been a busy week in the Stevenage camp as Paul Tisdale started his reign as manager. A name familiar to Yeovil fans, Tisdale spent a short spell playing at Huish Park during the 1999/00 season. The most notable work in his managerial CV is the 12 years he spent at fellow West Country outfit Exeter City, where he won promotion from both the Conference and League Two.

Within the playing ranks, there’s a recognisable face in Adam Smith. The Stevenage goalkeeper was Yeovil Town’s no.1 last season whilst on loan from Forest Green Rovers, and will be eager to impress at his old stomping ground.

Head to head

The most memorable clash for Yeovil fans against Stevenage came in the 2002 FA Trophy final, as the Glovers secured a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Carl Alford and the late Adam Stansfield.

Saturday night’s clash won’t be the first time the two sides have met in the FA Cup second round, during the 15/16 season, Ben Tozer netted the only goal at Huish Park.
