After 10 days out of action, Yeovil Town return to the pitch to face Maidenhead United at Huish Park on Tuesday evening (7:45pm).

Darren Sarll’s side will be looking to bounce back after two consecutive National League defeats against Chesterfield and Boreham Wood.

Tuesday’s visitors are winless in their last six fixtures, last picking up three points against Dover Athletic in August, however they are yet to lose to the Glovers since Town returned to the National League.

Darren Sarll’s thoughts

Speaking after Yeovil Town’s defeat to Boreham Wood, Sarll said;

“We’ve got a chance to go back on the training pitch, there wasn’t an awful lot about our organisation that has been critically wrong.

“We missed a plethora of chances, especially in the second half (against Boreham Wood) and that means we’ve got to be better. If we don’t start scoring more goals, that’s just going to add pressure to the defence.

Team news

Lewis Simper could be in with a chance to make his first competitive appearance for Yeovil Town after returning from a period of recovery with his parent club Cambridge United.

Last Thursday, the Glovers announced the signing of Exeter City duo Jordan Dyer & Ben Seymour on loan, the two of them will be vying for their first starts in Somerset.

After hobbling off against Chesterfield last month, Luke Wilkinson is unlikely to return to central defence. Morgan Williams also remains an injury doubt after missing out against Boreham Wood.

A foot in the opposition camp

Our visitors Maidenhead United were founded in 1870, and have called York Road their home since 1871, making it the ‘oldest senior football ground used consistently by the same club.’ In that time, the dimensions of the pitch have changed, switching it 90 degrees but all within the same site.

Manager Alan Devonshire returned to York Road in May 2015 for his second spell as United manager, leading to great success, winning the Vanarama National League South and Berks and Bucks Senior Cup in 2017. Led the Magpies to a top half finish in their inaugural Vanarama National League season in 2018, winning the April Manager of the month award. As a player Alan was a much-loved midfielder at West Ham United where he made over 400 appearances including the famous 1980 FA Cup Final win.

The star man for the visitors is full-back George Wells. Full-back Wells signed in the summer of 2020, making the short trip over the county line from Slough. George was a member of the Rebels team that made it to the National League South play offs in his final, having been supporters’ player of the year in 2018. Also has experience with Kingstonian and Hampton.

Have we met before?

Since returning to the National League, the Glovers have endured a difficult time against Maidenhead United, with zero wins in three games.

During the 19/20 season, the two sides played just once before COVID-19 curtailed the season, with Maidenhead United snatching a 2-1 victory at Huish Park.

Last season, Town fell to a defeat at York Road, and picked up a point in the Glovers’ penultimate fixture at Huish Park last season.
