11th March 2022

Yeovil Town will look to bounce back as Grimsby visit Huish Park on Saturday afternoon (3pm).

Last time out, the Glovers fell to a disappointing defeat at the hands of Dagenham and Redbridge, and this weekend’s task is another tough one, with Grimsby sitting in 8th place, just outside the play-off spots.

The visitors have been in a rich vein of form of late, but saw their six match unbeaten run come to an end at the hands of Southend on Tuesday evening.

Darren Sarll’s thoughts

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s game, Sarll said, “They’re a good side, they’re managed by an ex-EFL manager in Paul (Hurst), who is a very experienced chap.

“They’ve got a big squad but have had some injuries, Paul has spoken about having Ryan Taylor and Jordan Maguire-Drew back, they’re Football League players.

“Now Paul has his hands around it, I’m sure Paul thinks the side has now would still be in the Football League.”

Team news

Speaking pre-match, Sarll confirmed that Mark Little will be back in the starting side after sitting out on Tuesday evening. However, Max Hunt is not yet ready for a return to playing.

The boss hinted that Luke Wilkinson could be due a rest and Sonny Blu Lo-Everton is close to returning after recovering from illness.

A foot in the opposition camp

After a tough end to 2021, the Mariners have began 2022 in fine form. Despite a defeat last time out, the Mariners have won seven games since the turn of the year.

A key catalyst to Grimsby’s success is John McAtee, the former Scunthorpe forward has struck 11 league goals this campaign and netted against the Glovers last time out.

Have we met before?

When the two sides met earlier this season, Grimsby were the 2-0 victors at Blundell Park.

The Glovers’ last win in the fixture came in September 2018. Yeovil snatched a 1-0 victory over the Mariners as Omari Patrick struck with just over ten minutes remaining.

Our last victory at Huish Park came earlier that year in January 2018. Town won 3-0 on a cold Tuesday evening with Grimsby reduced to nine men.
