Yeovil Town will look to bounce back from an opening day defeat to King’s Lynn when they travel to Hampshire to face Aldershot Town on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm).

The clash with the Shots will be the Glovers first competitive away day of the season, and the first with the travelling green army behind them since March 2020.

Aldershot come into the game following back-to-back defeats and will be looking to secure their first points of the season in-front of their own supporters.

Darren Sarll’s thoughts

Speaking after Saturday’s defeat, Darren Sarll looked ahead to Monday’s game; “The difficulty for us is going straight into the season the three weeks after not playing games.

“Sonny (Blu Lo-Everton), may need to be fast-tracked, we’ve only got one day to get it right.

“We’ve definitely got to move the ball better and find some more attacking impetus on Monday.”

Team News

Long-term absentees Mark Little and Reuben Reid will certainly be unavailable, whilst Alex Bradley continues his recovery from the long-term effects of COVID-19.

Jordan Barnett hobbled off in the second half in Saturday’s defeat, but in his post-match interview, Sarll confirmed this was a precaution to ensure he’s available for Monday’s game.

A foot in the opposition camp

It’s been a difficult start to the season with games against two promotion hopefuls in their first two games. The opening day saw the Shots fall to a defeat against Chesterfield, losing 0-2 at home and this was followed up with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Boreham Wood.

This means manager Danny Searle will be looking from a reaction from his players to earn their first points of the season.

Struggling for goals, the Shots lost their star forward Harry Panayiotou in the summer as he moved north of the border to join Livingston in the Scottish Premiership.

This means forward Mohamed Bettamer will be looking to add some more goals to his tally after firing six times in 25 games last season.

Have we met before

Last season’s clashes with Aldershot Town were two polarising affairs from a Yeovil Town perspective. The first fixture came in December 2020 as the Glovers bounced back from a defeat at Torquay United to beat the Shots 3-0 at Huish Park.

Late in the season, the an injury-hit Glovers side travelled to Hampshire and were defeated 2-0.
