7th February 2022

Yeovil Town supporters will travel to Wealdstone FC for the first time since 1989 on Tuesday evening (7:45pm).

Unbeaten in their last three games, albeit with two draws Yeovil Town will look to turn those draws into a victory in Ruislip against Stuart Maynard’s Stones.

It’s been a case of second season syndrome Wealdstone, after a positive start to life in the National League, Wealdstone sit in 20th place, but eight points clear of the drop zone with two games in hand.

Darren Sarll’s thoughts

Speaking after last weekend’s draw with Solihull Moors, Sarll said; “We’re back on a mini-run now, we can go there with a lot of confidence having only conceded one goal in three games, I know we’ve only scored one goal in those games.

“Defensively, we’ve given ourselves a really strong foundation to move forward again, and the players will come out of this with the belief they can defend and keep clean sheets.

“That builds confidence through the team, because it then knows it only needs one or two chances to win a game.”

Team news

Yeovil Town were boosted by the early return of Josh Staunton on Saturday afternoon, who was originally stated to be back for the Wealdstone match.

In his post-match interview, Sarll noted that there might be three or four injury concerns following the Solihull Moors match, including Jordan Barnett who was forced into a substitution first half.

Barnett’s replacement was Lawson D’Ath who will be unlikely to start in West London after just returning from a long-term lay-off.

Have we met before?

This will be our first National League clash of the season against the Stones. Sarll will be hoping for a similar showing to last season’s trip to the Vale, the Glovers were the 2-0 victors in May 2021, with Tom Knowles and Joe Quigley on the scoresheet.

Earlier last season, the two sides met at Huish Park and played out a 2-2 draw, with a certain Charlie Wakefield starting for Wealdstone that night.

Prior to last season, the last meeting came in 1989 where Yeovil were the 4-1 victors.

A foot in the opposition camp

This season has seen many departures from the Stones, and none more influential than Connor Stevens who signed for Boreham Wood last week, and started in their FA Cup victory over Bournemouth.

Many of the side who won the National League South in 2020 are no longer at the club, with star men such as Michee Efete, Dennon Lewis and Jacob Mendy all moving on in the last 12 months.

This has seen the arrival of many new faces, including former Glover Rhys Browne, who has one National League goal to his name this season.
