The Glovers return to National League action on Boxing Day (3pm) with a trip to Plainmoor to face Torquay United.

In fine form, Darren Sarll’s side are joint top of the National League form table and haven’t lost a league fixture since travelling to Grimsby in October. Now sitting just four points outside the play-off places with games in hand on the teams around them, the green and whites will be hoping to utilise the busy Christmas schedule to continue climbing the table.

Opponents Torquay United came into the fixture as the league leaders last season, but this time round they sit in 16th place, but will be eager to get their season back on track in this West Country clash.

Team news

Morgan Williams could return to the fold after he tested positive for COVID-19 prior to Town’s FA Trophy clash with Woking.

Mark Little had targeted the Christmas period as his return to the side, and with the full-back in training once again, he could be named in the squad against the Gulls. Joe Quigley remains unavailable alongside Jack Robinson who continues to recover with his parent club Middlesbrough.

A foot in the opposition camp

After an FA Trophy exit last weekend to Tonbridge Angels, Gary Johnson and his Torquay side will be desperate to put that right, starting with Sunday’s clash with Yeovil.

Falling just short of promotion in the play-off final last season, it’s been a different story this year for the Gulls, who lost a number of key individuals in the Summer.

Attacking options have been boosted with the return to fitness of forward Danny Wright, who will be aiming to pick up where he left off last season.

Have we met before

Since dropping into the National League, clashes with Torquay have produced some memorable affairs.

In Sarll’s first season in charge, the Glovers completed a double over the Gulls, with a 6-2 win at Huish Park followed up by a 2-0 victory at Plainmoor.

Last season’s trip to Plainmoor was less successful for the Glovers, where Town were on the wrong end of a 6-1 thrashing, however just a matter of days later, Yeovil were able to upset the then league leaders with a 2-1 win at Huish Park.

There will be NO ticket sales made on the day for this fixture, they must be purchased in advance from the Torquay United website by midnight on Christmas Day.
