Tuesday’s 3-1 defeat at Colchester condemned Town to a second 3-1 defeat in four days, with the first bringing to an end a run of three consecutive away wins.

Aiming for a return to winning ways, Way is making sure that they correct any problems and the players focus on what’s important.

Talking to iFollow Glovers Way said: “It’s up to me to make sure that the players and the team concentrate and focus on one thing and that’s performance.

“It’s making sure that we understand the situation as to why we’re not winning football matches, it’s been two games now that you could ask ‘could we have done better’?

“We’ve conceded goals and we’ve created a little bit of history at the football club so we’re not a bad team overnight, we are understanding the problems that we need to resolve and perhaps work a little bit harder.”

The Glovers sealed one for the history books eight minutes into the 3-0 defeat to Swindon as they avoided conceding for 573 minutes beating the previous record of 521 minutes.

Now conceding more goals than earlier on in the season, Town’s boss is looking for his side to get their form back on track and respond to conceding in a better fashion.

“We’ve not reacted with a goal going in and perhaps that’s something to think about with a young group.

“It takes time to build resilience and that’s what we had from pre-season and we have to deal with that.

“All I have to ask with the players really is to make sure we don’t get too complacent and we keep working hard and stay focused and performances will turn.”

Their first shot at getting back on track will be a home tie against West Country rivals Exeter City on Saturday afternoon (3pm).

With the Grecians sitting in second position Way is expecting his side to be up for the derby fixture, despite being hit by a number of injuries.

“You expect a local derby to have players naturally up for that moment and we’re playing at home which is great.

“We’re three points off the play-offs so we’ve not been in that situation. We’ve had a little bit of bad luck and we’re not going to use that as an excuse.

“We understand we’ve got one or two key players missing but that gives the other players an opportunity, one of the things I do know is naturally you’ll be up for a derby.”
