27th July 2015

The countdown is on!! Just over two weeks and Yeovil Town will be back in Sky Bet League Two action.

It has been a long summer without the beautiful game but luckily for us we have a ladies side that have made the absence a lot easier to take.

I had the pleasure of attending and writing about two Women’s Super League Two matches either side of the excellent Women’s World Cup.

It is safe to say I am a convert and am super proud of our Lionesses and our lady Glovers.

Watching them at Huish Park was something special and they looked right at home.

They like to play the ball out wide and get numerous crosses in the box.

I really hope we will see that style of play, and their determination, in the new season and no doubt Sturrock will make sure Huish Park becomes a fortress in the 2015/2016 season.

Now, speaking of the lads, it has been a busy summer for Glovers fans and I hope you have all been keeping up with the signings and remembering the names and faces!

I have had a tough summer dealing with the departure of Joe Edwards so I am on the lookout for a new favourite.

I am, of course, joking.

Well, I am sort of joking!

Here are the players I think we should watch out for in the coming season. Let me know via Twitter if you agree or disagree and who you think will make their mark.

Wes Fogden

I will admit I did not know a lot about the 27 – year – old midfielder but I do know that fans comments are often crucial regarding how successful a signing will be. AFC Bournemouth fans have assured me that he is a top addition to our squad. When you hear phrases such as “does not stop running” and “fans favourite”, who would not be excited? He sounds like just the type of player Yeovil Town welcome into their hearts and if he is anything like Bournemouth favourite, James Hayter, then we are in for a treat. He has got off to a good start in pre – season by making his mark with assists. Let’s hope that continues from August 8th.

Jack Compton

Jack joins us after a whirlwind season with Hartlepool United. He was a part of the squad that pulled off a remarkable “great escape” from relegation. This experience will no doubt have been a valuable one and I hope this season he will be fighting at the opposite end of the table. It is always nice to have a player who knows the West Country on board. Having played for both Weymouth and Weston Super Mare the 26 – year – old will be right at home in my favourite place in the world.

Matty Dolan

I think this is my favourite signing of the summer. Despite only playing 10 games for us in his loan spell in 2013 (best year ever) Matty really made an impression and his attitude, for a loan player, was impeccable. I have fond memories of that free kick against Notts County and I hope he adds to his tally from midfield. He already has a play – off winner’s medal and I really hope he makes the central midfield place his own. Matty has the pleasure of taking on the number four shirt and if anyone was going to take Joe’s number – I am very glad it is him!

Ryan Dickson

Yeovil fans know better than most what it is like to lose their player of the season but this time we snapped up Crawley Town’s top man. Ryan Dickson has also spent time on loan at Huish Park and the left back returns with a lot more experience under his belt and is reunited with his former boss. It speaks volumes that players are returning to play for Paul Sturrock. He obviously builds up a rapport with players and gets the best out of them. I think Ryan is a great addition and I hope he replicates his form with Crawley – but, this time, at the top end of League Two.

Welcome to all the other players who will pull on that special shirt in August.

It could end up being a very special season.

The loyal fans certainly deserve it and the Sturrock era looks to be an exciting one.

With such a fantastic start ahead of us, the opening three matches could tell us a lot about the season ahead.

I hope to see you all at Exeter away and for the rest of the season.

Also, I urge you all to catch a Women’s Super League match at the Jones Stadium – Yeovil Town ladies could make history.

We are one club with two teams we should be extremely proud of.

So, with the excitement building, let’s keep the countdown going on Twitter!
