27th January 2021

Yeovil Town head to Maidenhead United on Wednesday evening for our first National League fixture in 22 days.

Last playing in our derby day victory over Weymouth, Yeovil Town now travel to Berkshire to face the Magpies for the first time since 2019.

The hosts have just come off the back from a lengthy break themselves, drawing 0-0 to Woking in their first fixture since Boxing Day.

Darren Sarll’s thoughts

Darren Sarll was full of praise for Maidenhead United manager and West Ham legend Alan Devonshire ahead of Wednesday’s fixture.

“Alan Devonshire is a truly wonderful ex-player, his teams are always set-up to be really robust and get the job done their way.

“It will be very tough, it’s a tough away trip for us. They’ve had a good start to the season and their aren’t too many teams that can match their form in the league right now.”

Team News

Sarll confirmed to BBC Somerset that Luke Wilkinson will be out with an injury but Town have been boosted by the arrival of Michael Kelly.

The gaffer will not be in the dugout for tonight’s game due after a positive COVID-19 test in his household.

Rhys Murphy is in line to return after completing a period of self isolation.

A foot in the opposition camp

Maidenhead United currently sit eighth in the National League after a much improved 2020/21 campaign after narrowly surviving the drop last season.

Much of this success is down to Sam Barratt, who is the league’s second top scorer, averaging 0.78 goals per 90.

Another man to look out for is full back George Wells. A summer signing from Slough Town, Wells possesses a deadly cross which can unlock any defence.

Manager Devonshire will no doubt be delighted with the impact of his new signings this year. Devonshire is a well-known name to football fans, enjoying a sucessful playing career at West Ham United before settling in Maidenhead.

The form

Over the last five games, Yeovil have turned a corner, picking up 12 points from the 15 available.

The pick of Town’s victories came against Weymouth, comfortably beating the local rivals 3-0 thanks to goals from Josh Neufville, Albi Skendi and Joe Quigley.

Maidenhead have two wins, two losses and one draw from their last five games.

Most recently, the Magpies were held to a 0-0 draw on the road by Woking.
