With a week of speculation at Huish Park ending in a welcome win at Bradford, Yeovil Town chairman John Fry has spoken of the excitement and the worry of life in League One.

And at the top of his agenda is concern about the Football League’s Financial Fair Play system which aims to ensure that clubs do not spend more than they earn.

He also referred to today’s (Monday’s) meeting with Yeovil Town manager Gary Johnson, and said:”Myself and the board have every confidence in the football management team and we have a close and successful relationship.

“We had a useful meeting and there will be another one later this week with the Football Executive Committee when the manager’s requests for additional players will be considered.”

On financial matters, Mr Fry said:”You have only to look at the likes of Hereford,Torquay, Bristol Rovers and even Salisbury City to see how easily football clubs can get into serious trouble, and even go to the wall.

“I do not want  anything like that to happen to Yeovil Town, and I and my directors will do everything within our power to ensure financial and footballing success.

“Make no mistake, me and my directors are in charge at Yeovil Town. Our books are in the black at the moment, but we have to be careful.

“If a fairy godfather – or mother- came along tomorrow with a huge investment we may have another story to tell.

“But as it stands our staff and our loyal supporters have to understand the constraints under which we have to operate in League One.

“For a start we are £4million less better off since we left the Championship.”

Mr Fry, who has spent 20 seasons as chairman of the Glovers, also spoke of the need for bigger gates.

“We need 4,500 at every home game, but at the moment we are struggling to reach 4,000.

“Wins like the one at Bradford should help, but consistency will boost our gates, I am sure.

“Then perhaps we can think about boosting the squad as well.”
