The 18-year-old has made two appearances for the Glovers this season, being handed his debut at Goodison Park against Everton in Round Two of the EFL Cup in August, before coming off the bench against Portsmouth in the Checkatrade Trophy fixture at Huish Park.
Lea joined Town in the summer having graduated through Southampton’s academy, signing a one-year contract.
The midfielder becomes the second player to join the Magpies on loan this season, with Ollie Bassett spending time on loan at the Avenue last month prior to leaving on international duty with the Northern Ireland Under-19 squad.
Lea will now link up with former Yeovil fans’ favourite Nick Crittenden, who is player/assistant manager for the Dorset club.
Everyone at Yeovil Town Football Club wishes Joe all the best during his time at The Avenue.
