Town captain Rachael Edwards admits her side’s previous performances against FA Women’s Super League 1 teams this season fills her with confidence as she eyes up an upset against Notts County in the Continental Cup.

A draw against Bristol Academy and a narrow loss to Birmingham allowed Yeovil to show their credentials on the big stage.

And as wins over Aston Villa and Oxford United leave them just three points off table-toppers Notts County in Group Three, Edwards insists the Yeovil players have nothing to fear from their final Continental Cup group game.

“We’re full of confidence that we always raise our game when playing against top teams so we’ll go in knowing that we can give them a really good game,” she said.

“We’re going well in the group ourselves and hopefully we can get something from it.

“We’ve never played Notts County before. We’ve obviously seen them on TV and hear about them doing so well in the league above us so we know they’re going to be a really tough opposition.

“But we don’t fear anybody so we’ll just go in and hopefully get the result we want.”

Notts County, meanwhile, have only conceded one goal in the Continental Cup this season, in the draw with Bristol Academy.

And goalkeeper Carly Telford is keen to maintain that defensive record and push forward in the competition as County strive for silverware.

Telford said: “It won’t be easy for us but we’ve got the capability to go in and get something out of the game which will put us in a good position to kick on for the rest of the cup and the rest of the season.

“We had a good run in the FA Cup so we’re now looking to the next best thing – the Continental Cup.

“As the weeks go on, the focus will switch to the league but if we can keep momentum going through the cups and pick up some silverware that way then that’s an added bonus.

“We’ll be looking for a good performance and hopefully the three points will look after themselves.”

The Glovers will be hoping for a big crowd on Saturday to get behind the team, who can still finish as the highest place runner up and qualify for the semi finals of the Continental Cup.

The game on 12th July kicks off at 5.00pm (turnstiles open at 3.30pm) at Jones Stadium, Sherborne, DT9 5NS.
