22nd February 2013

After announcing last week that they were considering a bid to achieve FA Super League status, Yeovil Town Ladies have now confirmed they will be pitching to join theFAWSL, which will expand in 2014. If successful, Yeovil will become one of the top 20 women’s football clubs in England.

The Club Committee is understood to have voted unanimously in favour of the application at a special meeting which heard the results of an interim report into the viability of a bid.

We have been amazed by the positive feedback we have received in the last week since we said we were considering a bid. From the initial work we have done we know we can submit an exciting and sustainable bid. We are also confident that some of the ideas we have for innovation will be unique to the Women’s game in this country. Our recent game with Leeds United saw a crowd of over 600, proving that Yeovil has a big fan base ready for FAWSL football and that we as a club can handle games of that size. This has to be an advantage as I think this season, outside the FAWSL, only ourselves, Leeds, Sunderland and Newcastle have taken part in games with crowds of over 600. The fact that we share something with great clubs like those, tells you all you need to know about Yeovil Town Ladies FC”.David Mills, Club Chairman said”

”As our Joint First Team Manager Sarah Lawler said last week, we are on the look out for additional sponsors to make our bid as strong as possible. There will be some great opportunities for sponsors if we get into the FAWSL and sponsors who wish to support us do not need to pay anything at this time, we just need a letter of intent from them that they will back us from October 2013, if we get into the FAWSLMills was also keen to say that although the decision to apply had now been made, it is still important that would be sponsors contact the club, he said
