Replacing Artur Krysiak after 51 minutes, the 23-year-old maintained Town’s clean sheet to help the Glovers come away from Gresty Road with a share of the spoils.

After featuring in 11 games last season the young keeper has had to be patient this time around, but was delighted to cross the white line in Cheshire in difficult circumstances.

“It’s never the nicest way to come on, especially as a keeper,” he told iFollow Glovers. “Injury is usually the only way I can get on and hopefully Artur is alright but that’s part and parcel of it.

“Steve (Phillips) has been pushing us very hard in training every day and I’m very thankful for that and the gaffer has been keeping pushing me and I’m so thrilled my chance has finally come.

“As a goalkeeper rule number one is keep a clean sheet and you’ve done your job if that’s the case but it wasn’t just from me, not at all, the boys made my life a lot easier if I’m honest and defended really well as a team so I’m really pleased.”

Maddison made a notable save to keep out Callum Ainley’s strike just past the hour-mark and continued to keep the Railwaymen out.

Having made his first appearance of the 2017/18 campaign, the former Leicester City stopper is full of praise for goalkeeper coach Steve Phillips who joined the club in September.

“It’s been a while but it’s given me a chance to analyse my weaknesses in the game and Steve’s come in and been brilliant with that and not only progressed myself but progressed Artur and hopefully, I can showcase that on the pitch and show I’ve learnt.

“(Steve’s) personality is a big factor and his experience with the number of league games he played, he’s a valuable asset to the football club not only to the goalies but to the lads as well.

“He’s very experienced and he coaches us more – we’re out half-an-hour, 45 minutes before the rest of the lads sometimes and hopefully it’s showing that it’s paying off so I’m buzzing with it.”
