The 20-year-old joined the Glovers on deadline day and made his debut for the club as a 79th-minute sub in the 1-1 draw at Hartlepool United on Saturday.

It was the Jones’ first ever outing in the English Football League – an achievement that has been in the forefront of his mind for a long time.

He told YTFC’s official YouTube channel: “As soon as I saw my name (on the team sheet) in the morning I was really delighted.

“It’s something you dream about as a kid growing up so to finally get there is really exciting and I’m really happy.

“He (Way) obviously had faith in me so hopefully I can go on to repay him him.”

Hartlepool took the lead in the 64th minute through Padraig Amond’s header but parity was restored moments later.

Francois Zoko was hauled down in the area after a skilful run and Matty Dolan slotted home from 12 yards.

The Hartlepool-born midfielder almost netted the winner against his hometown club too but saw his late free kick clawed out the top corner by keeper Adam Bartlett.

“We were all over them in the last 10, 15 minutes so we were a little unlucky not to get three points,” Jones said.

“But to travel to a place like Hartlepool and get a point is a good result.

“It was a brilliant piece of skill (from Zoko) and as soon as he went past him I knew what was going to happen next and it was a good finish from Matty as well.

“It was a superb save from the keeper (the free kick). It was one of them, it flies in and we win the game so it was a bit unlucky really.”

Jones is cup-tied for Town’s Checkatrade Trophy tie at Luton Town but will be available for selection when Leyton Orient visit Huish Park on Saturday (February 11th, 3pm).
