The defender has featured regularly in the heart of the Glovers defence this season, picking up three end of season awards after Town secured their EFL status against Stevenage.

Former Luton Town man Lacey is out of contract in the summer but is due to hold talks over a new deal in the coming days.

“It’s been good for me and my footballing ability to come here and play a lot of games this especially this season,” he told YTFC’s official YouTube channel.

“It’s been good for me to play every game I’ve been fit for. I’m very happy with the way I’ve played and I was delighted to get some awards.

“I’m due to sit down with the gaffer over the next few days. It’s been very good for me to play games here and I’ve enjoyed my time a lot so that will be one of the things we’ll talk about.”

Town could end the season in 17th position with a win against Colchester United on the final day.

A win would be the ideal way to sign off for the summer and Lacey is hoping the club can kick on next year.

He added: “The first half of the season we were excellent and got into the play-offs. We had a bit of a bad run of form and it’s been a difficult second half of the season.

“We rallied round and to get safety at the end is obviously an achievement – now we need to press on.

“It’s a time to rebuild – a bit like last season. It’s definitely important for the club to get players’ contract sorted.”

Tickets for the match are available on the day in Essex.
