Yeovil Town midfielder Matt Worthington became the club’s longest serving player at just 23-years-old during the summer when he opted to extend his contract with the club.

Having also recently hit 100 appearances for the Glovers, the no.7 has been taking the onus upon himself to step up and help the new faces around Huish Park settle in to the area.

Speaking about his added responsibility, Worthington said; “I think I do, definitely a little bit more this year, I’m the longest serving player here now. The new lads have come in and have done really well.

“As soon as you play your first game here, you realise how much it means to the fans,” added the midfielder, “so I don’t have to do too much.

“Obviously I’m still young myself, I’m only 23, but with the experience of the games I’ve played, I can help the young lads on the way, so it’s something I want to bring to my game.”

In total, Worthington has played in five different campaigns for Yeovil Town, across a loan and eventually permanent spell with the club.

Playing in the current side now, Worthington insists he and his teammates are hungry for success despite the youthful look to the side.

“I think it’s very different from last year, obviously now we’ve got a lot more youth compared to then and the year before.

“We’ve got a lot of young and hungry players. It’s totally different now, the way we play is more energetic. We’re pressing well and in recent weeks we’ve played some nice football.

It’s very different now, but the squad looks really good!
