Yeovil Town midfielder Charlie Wakefield got to celebrate a victory at Huish Park for the first time on Saturday evening, as the Glovers were the 1-0 victors over FC Halifax Town.

Following the game, the players and managers spent time taking in the result, celebrating with the fans in what was hard-fought victory.

Speaking to BBC Somerset’s Sheridan Robins, Wakefield was blown away by the Huish Park atmosphere; “It was a bit like Monday (vs. Aldershot)” said the Chelsea academy graduate. “We had to dig deep, it was an unbelievable atmosphere, same with the away fans on Monday and we’ve managed to win again.

“That’s our third game in a row where we’ve come into half-time 1-0 up, with the first game of the season we let it slip, which was always going to be a bit more difficult after we lost a man. We’ve shown the character we have to win the past two games and bounce back.

“I always feel like we enjoy these (tight games), more than a 4-0 or a 5-0 because you have to dig real deep and when the final whistle blows, and you see the fans celebrating, it’s some atmosphere.”

Coming in with a reputation as a flair player, Wakefield has worked hard to adapt his game for the good of the team, something that is certainly bearing fruit for Darren Sarll’s side.

“Usually I’m running with the ball more as I’m a direct player, but I’ve been working really hard for the team and I’m really enjoying that too.

“I want to work hard, I want to be someone that puts a shift in for the boys and for the club. We’ve got to keep doing what we’re doing, it’s only three games into the season.

“We know not to get too excited, but we enjoy it at the same time. It’s the first home win of the season so right now I’m delighted.”
