Midfielder Joe Edwards is enjoying the challenges of SkyBet Championship football but will only continue to do so if Yeovil can maintain their second tier status.

Edwards was pitted against former England internationals Joey Barton and Jermaine Jenas in Saturday’s 3-0 loss at Queens Park Rangers, whilst also having to deal with the floating talent that is Ravel Morrison.

Despite enjoying every match, the former Bristol City midfielder is more concerned about securing Championship safety.

“QPR have very good players and that’s why they are at the top of the league and paid the money they are.

“It’s obviously good to test yourselves against players like Barton and Morrison but at the end of the day it’s still a loss for us so it’s disappointing.

“I’m learning every game so it’s nice to test myself against these players, especially as a lot of the best players in the league are in central midfield so for me personally I’m enjoying every game playing against them, but I just hope we do enough against them to keep us in the league.”

Morrison’s strike in off of the post gave QPR the lead midway through the first half, but the post wasn’t so kind to the Glovers in the second period when Tom Lawrence’s curling effort came back off the woodwork.

And the ever-present Edwards believes the Manchester United loanee’s effort may have been a turning point in the match had it gone in.

“That’s the difference; Morrison’s went top corner and ours hit the post and I thought Tom did brilliant again today and it was a great effort but just hit the post so those things go against us.

“Maybe if it had gone in it might have been a different story but for us it was unlucky.”

Despite the 3-0 scoreline the Yeovil players are far from down and out, with Edwards revealing the games the Glovers are targeting three points from.

“We’ve got big games coming up and maybe these games aren’t the ones which will decide whether we’re up or down. We have to learn from it and take it on to the next game and get the points against the teams around us and take any bonus points against Wigan or QPR, so we’ll just keep going.”
