The 22-year-old goalkeeper put in a man of the match display to help the Green and Whites earn a point which secured their Sky Bet League Two status for next season.

Maddison, who has featured in all of the Glovers’ cup matches this year, made his EFL debut at Newport County on Good Friday after Artur Krysiak suffered an ankle injury in training and has continued between the sticks for three games following.

At one stage, Way feared his young stopper might have to be withdrawn and an outfield player put in goal but fortunately for Town it didn’t come to that.

He told YTFC.net: “He was unbelievable – it was an absolutely fantastic performance.

“It’s amazing how he’s taken the responsibility on his shoulders with no goalkeeper on the bench.

“It just goes to show what we’re dealing with as a football club.

“I was actually looking around when he went down once at which player was going to go in goal – it certainly wasn’t going to be me! It would’ve been Tom James.”

Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro was on target for Way’s side just before the break before Josh McQuoid’s close range effort earned Stevenage a share of the spoils.

It was the Barnet loanee’s second since arriving in Somerset in January and Way hasn’t ruled out making a move for the experienced frontman this summer.

“He was a massive addition,” he said.

“He’s certainly given me a headache for when I sit down with the board and try and build a team which is going to be successful next year.”

The club would like to thank the supporters for their fantastic efforts at Huish Park and on the road this season.
