Yeovil Town have beat off competition from a host of big names from the football, cricket and rugby world to finish in the Top 20 of the first Sports Social Media Index.

The index was produced by PR and social media agency Umpf with partners William Hill. It is a benchmark of social media success among professional British sports teams, ending in a league table of 148 sports teams based on their use of social media.

The table was compiled by measuring the performance of each team based not just on an algorithm, but research from a team of nine people who looked at social networks, as well as a panel of four judges who presided over the results.

The results put the Glovers joint fifth in the Championship table with a score of 58.8%, beating the likes of Queens Park Rangers and Nottingham Forest.

In the overall league table of all 148 teams, Town’s use of social media also received recognition – beating the likes various Premier League clubs to a place in the top 20.
