The Glovers had taken the lead through Sam Surridge before Connor Smith and Omar Sowunmi were sent off either side of a Mark Randall equaliser.

Play was halted when a drone was flown into the stadium and following a 10-minute delay, Harry Kewell’s visitors made their two-man advantage count as substitute Thomas Verheydt headed home late on.

Town battled bravely in an attempt to secure a point out of the match and Way couldn’t fault any of his squad’s effort and application.

“I feel very proud of the players who were on the pitch and carried out their duties,’ he told iFollow Glovers.

“We were playing some very good football and we should have been two or three-nil up.

“We were certainly the better team 11 v 11 but then we unfortunately got Connor sent off, they score from a set-play and then Omar gets sent off so it gave them a little bit of momentum.

“We knew at half-time the situation we were in. We had to regroup as we couldn’t do anything about it.

“Unfortunately we didn’t get a point which would have been big but the teams below us haven’t gained an advantage.

“I have to thank the players for all their hard work and commitment throughout that second 45 minutes.”
